Application of Rosin Resin in Hot Melt Adhesive

Rosin resin is the oleoresin which flows out after the tree body of the open pine tree, which is the product of the physiological activity of the tree and is mainly composed of terpenoids. Just out of the rosin is a colorless transparent oily liquid, exposed to the air, with the terpene hydrocarbon compounds gradually volatilized and thickened, and finally become white or yellow solid substance-hair rosin. Turpentine is the raw material for the production of rosin and turpentine.

Hot melt adhesive (English name: Hot Glue or Hot melt Adhesive) is a plastic adhesive. Its physical state changes with temperature within a certain temperature range. It is solid at low temperature and liquid at high temperature. Its chemical properties remain unchanged. It is non-toxic and tasteless and is an environmentally friendly chemical product. Because the product itself is solid, easy to package, transport, storage, solvent-free, non-polluting, non-toxic; and the production process is simple, high added value, high bonding strength, fast speed and so on.

At present, the rosin resin processed by the rosin industry is mainly used in the hot melt adhesive industry, so we should study it in particular. Because of its environmental characteristics, and along with the economic development of various countries, people on all kinds of daily necessities on the potential harm to people more and more attention, so hot melt adhesive products more and more widely used, especially in Europe, the United States, Asia, Japan and South Korea, solvent adhesive products are more and more replaced by hot melt adhesive products.

The types of hot melt adhesives are also diverse, but they are inseparable. The overall formula is composed of basic resins, tackifiers, viscosity regulators and antioxidants. The main types are polyolefin hot melt adhesive, ethylene and its copolymer (EVA) hot melt adhesive, polyester hot melt adhesive, polyester (PET), polyamide hot melt adhesive, environment-friendly hot melt adhesive, pressure-sensitive hot melt adhesive and water-based hot melt adhesive. Among them, EVA-type hot melt adhesive, environment-friendly hot melt adhesive (composite of wood and paper, etc.), pressure-sensitive hot melt adhesive and water-based hot melt adhesive all use a large number of rosin resins with various properties. Rosin resins are used as tackifiers. The performance and cost of hot melt adhesive are adjusted by selecting different types of rosin resins, changing the proportion and compounding of different tackifying resins.
